Help for Every Student

Whether you or your child is a student who is struggling and feels like giving up, or is excelling and knows exactly where they want to go but wants help getting there. Whether there are issues with bullies, a desire to homeschool, a need to catch-up after a shift in schools or an issue impacted learning. I support all students in all situations.

Together we can go from failing to a good pass. We can go from a good pass to a great grade that helps springboard on to the next stage of life. I work with students to identify interests, cross-cutting information to inspire interest and agency in the subjects we study together. My students range from those prepping for medical school entrance to Oxbridge universities, to students who gave up years ago but now need to pass so they can move onwards. And i find joy in teaching every student across the range, each with a bespoke approach devised to best suit they unique situation and goals.

My background is in human anatomy and medical genetics, so I know how much a brain and body are rebuilding between the ages of 11 and 25. A surprising amount of what gets called attitude turns out to be a growing person under a lot of strain. I start from that understanding and add study approaches that suit how each young person actually thinks. Then I leave plenty of room for them to decide what they want, since a goal they chose themselves will get them out of bed in a way a target handed to them never does.

In the background of each lesson, I work to establish self-supportive techniques to manage stress, overwhelm, exhaustion, fear, discomfort, resistance, confusion and emotional flooding that will last them a lifetime.

Solutions for Problems

A lot of young people who look like they're falling behind have a perfectly good brain that's been running on a story telling them they can't do it. A fourteen-year-old who is "just not a maths person" can often crack the equation the moment she stops bracing to get it wrong. A first-year student who's sure he picked the wrong degree may simply never have been shown how he learns. The grades are only the part the adults can see, and the interesting work happens underneath them.

Shoot for the Stars

Sometimes young people know exactly what they want in life, they just need help to get there. Many of the students that I work with have harboured dreams of attaining specific university places and now find they must excel to make their dreams come true. They face stuff competition and need support to make sure they reach their full capacity and achieve their goals in a world that has put grade-mark gates in front of them. Working together, the fear diminishes and the attainment rises.

Options - one, a few or all

Tutoring: 11+, 13+, entry exams, KS2, KS3, GCSE, A-level, IB, & University. Focused one-to-one support that identifies the blocks, gets them unstuck and builds the kind of confidence that holds up in an exam hall. Subjects range from almost all subjects up to and including GCSE (with the exclusion of computer science and foreign languages), to Sciences, Humanities and English at A-level and above.

Mentoring, Student Support & Well-Being: These are the in-between years, when life pulls in many different directions and students are both ready to grow up one moment and still a child the next. They get a steady adult in their corner who asks good questions, models solutions and helps them to gain clarity and take the next steps. All delivered with warmth and a collaborative sense of humour.

Educational Consultancy: This is for students, parents, schools and youth-support organisations that have questions around the best way forward in individual or group education, programme design, curriculum development, education plans for specific students or subjects, study timetables, revision planning, working with the system to gain the optimum outcome. Also available - laboratory and field skills workshops, field trip design and study abroad preparation programmes, including English as a second language.

The practical bits: All sessions are online via private classrooms on transparently and securely managed platforms. I shifted entirely online after finding students significantly preferred it, as it allows for a working proximity which leaves them immediately free before and after the sessions. Think of me as Jiminy Cricket, Tinkerbelle, or an academic Mary Poppins - i pop up and we connect, progress and problem-solve, then I am gone.

1000s of students have worked with me professionally, I haven't yet had one failure.

The goal is a young person who needs me a little less each week, because they understand now. And, in the end, I get messages of thanks from happy past students who have started writing their own life story with their increased agency, and they're enjoying the plot.
